The University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus, acts as the primary backdrop of Vladimir, where our Lead and Vladimir both work. It’s recognized for its close-knit campus community, with modern facilities and a scenic setting along the Highland Creek valley. If you’ve come to check out campus, you should plan to make a day of it, including indulging in some of the global cuisine that the city is known for. Check out Spice Club for authentic Indian cuisine that’s as beautiful as it is delicious. Then stop by Cedar Ridge Creative Centre where you can take in contemporary and traditional visual and folk art across three main-floor gallery spaces. Finally, end your day with a sunset picnic at Morningside Park, it also has a splash pad and a playground if you want to bring the kiddos along!

The Sweet Potato

The Sweet Potato is a natural foods grocery store located in the Junction where our lead and John go shopping throughout Vladimir Season 1. The Junction is known for its independent shops, craft breweries and vibrant arts scene, centred along Dundas Street West. Save groceries for the end of the day and spend a few hours exploring first! If you’re in the mood for some shopping, stop in at Pandemonium for a collection of new and used books, CDs, vinyls and music memorabilia. If that doesn’t get your creative juices flowing, stop by The Museum of Contemporary Art, otherwise known as MOCA. The first floor is always free to the public, or you can check out their website for tickets and programming. End your day at The Hole in the Wall, a cozy hideaway serving craft beers, creative cocktails and a menu that’s just as comforting as the environment.

Prequel and Co. Apothecary

Another gem in Queen West, Prequel & Co. Apothecary, is an immersive cocktail bar that transports guests into a turn-of-the-century Parisian apothecary. It’s where John meets one of his affairs before coming face-to-face with his wife’s friend in Vladimir. It’s also steps away from Ossington Avenue, a lively street - especially in those warm summer months. Check out Lunch Lady, a popular restaurant serving delicious Vietnamese street food. Or, if the weather is just right, Bellwoods Brewery is always a popular choice, with a great patio positioned for people watching. If you’re in the mood for a little shopping, check out Good Friends Market for locally made goods from artisans across fashion, food and more.

The Dog & Bear Pub

the dog & bear pub 1

The Dog and Bear Pub is a traditional British pub and sports bar in the heart of Queen West - the perfect meeting place for after-work drinks, just like the faculty does in Vladimir. But locals know the neighbourhood has many more gems to discover. Try the Grand Order of Divine Sweets, a quirky bakery & cafe with treats inspired by fantasy, sci-fi & comics. Then take a stroll to Trinity Bellwoods Park with loads of greenspace in the middle of the city, this is a-go to spot in any season, and particularly in the springtime when the cherry blossom trees are in bloom. If you plan ahead, you can even catch a concert at The Great Hall, a stunning historic venue built in 1889 and fully restored in 2016.
