The Fall of the House of Usher

Twelve West

In episode 5 of the series, Tamerlane rents out an entire bar to have a private conversation with Frederick and Victorine. They discuss the deaths of their siblings, and how their Aunt Madeline is having them tailed by security. This scene is filmed at Vancouver’s trendy Twelve West nightclub and bar; a hotspot for music and private events. If you find yourself here during the day, check out Wildlife Thrift Store for a cute vintage outfit to wear when the sun goes down.

The Pacific Building, built in 1911 by real estate developer W A Bauer, today houses offices throughout its eight storeys and businesses on the street level. This beautifully simplistic building acts as Napoleon Usher’s loft throughout the series. While admiring the building, don’t forget to grab some yummy treats from Breka Bakery & Café, conveniently located within the Pacific Building on its main floor and open 24/7. Breka is regularly voted among Vancouver's best bakeries and cafés.

The church where Roderick Usher lays his remaining three children to rest in the series’ opening scene is none other than Vancouver’s Holy Rosary Cathedral. Once regarded as the “finest piece of architecture west of Toronto and north of San Francisco”, the cathedral has stood in place for over a century and still holds regular mass, as well as hosting concerts and weddings. After admiring the beautiful stained glass and gothic architecture, visitors to the city can take a short 10 minute walk to the Gastown Steam Clock for a mandatory photo, followed by a walking tour guided by Ghostly Vancouver Tours to stay in the spooky spirit. Finally, end the day with a visit to the Raven’s Veil gift shop for some eclectic goodies.
