Remember where Tova goes to lunch with her gossipy friends, the “Knit-Wits” in Remarkably Bright Creatures? That’s the Blue Canoe Waterfront Restaurant, a relaxed seafood spot perched right on the pier in the heart of Steveston Village. Overlooking Fisherman’s Wharf and the marina, the restaurant is known for its fresh seafood, waterfront patio and laid-back West Coast atmosphere. From there, take a stroll along the waterfront boardwalk where local fishing boats sell fresh seafood right off the dock. Wander all the way to Garry Point Park. This wide-open oceanside park offers incredible sunset views over the Fraser River and Gulf Islands, plus walking trails, beaches and grassy picnic areas perfect for relaxing by the water. If you’re there in the spring, be sure to find the Akebono Cherry Blossom Trees - a scenic attraction for both locals and visitors. If you’re looking for a bit of history, stop by The Steveston Tram museum, home to Tram Car 1220, one of the original streetcars used on Richmond’s Interurban railway. Fully restored, the tram and its surrounding exhibit space give visitors a chance to step back in time. Steveston also has plenty of charming local shops worth browsing, and the Shooting Star Gift Shop has plenty of souvenirs, so you don’t have to worry about heading home empty handed.
