Don’t let the exterior fool you, the interior shots in Remarkably Bright Creatures were all filmed at the Vancouver Aquarium, Canada’s largest aquarium in the heart of Stanley Park. With 65,000 amazing animals, from rescued sea otters and sea lions to sloths and axolotls, there is so much to see at this incredible attraction. Once you’ve finished at the aquarium, head to Second Beach, where you can relax on the sand, swim in the heated outdoor pool during summer months or simply enjoy the waterfront atmosphere. When it’s time for food, stop in at Stanley Park Brewing Restaurant & Brewpub for casual West Coast comfort food and locally crafted beer served inside a historic park pavilion. While you’re in the area, don’t miss a chance to see A-maze-ing Laughter, a bronze sculpture by artist Yue Minjun, located in Morton Park. With so much to see right in and around Stanley Park, be sure to set aside the entire day.
When Cameron finally tracks down the man he’s been looking for in Remarkably Bright Creatures, they grab lunch at none other than Bufala - River District, a modern neighbourhood pizzeria bringing wood-fired Italian comfort food to Vancouver’s growing River District community. A short walk away is Everett Crowley Park, a massive 38 hectare park filled with walking trails that could keep you busy for hours exploring. For a fun activity nearby, head to the Fraserview Golf Course, a scenic public course surrounded by mature trees and river views. If you’d rather stay close to the waterfront, the parks and open plazas throughout the River District often host seasonal markets, outdoor fitness classes and community events that give the area its growing neighbourhood charm. If you’re planning your trip, look at August so you don’t miss the Riverside Street Vibe festival. With live music performances, great food and local artisans, you won’t want to miss it.
