In Episode 3 of Dead Boy Detectives, Niko and Edwin head to the library in order to research more about the mysterious Devlin House. The colourful and modern library featured in the series is the Surrey Libraries - Cloverdale Branch, located in the city’s historic Cloverdale city centre. In addition to housing one of the largest family history collections in all of Western Canada, this library also displays the works of local artists and crafters. Right next door is the Museum of Surrey, which showcases several fascinating exhibitions on Surrey’s Indigenous history, heritage buildings, and modern art and culture. History buffs can also explore the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Museum and take a ride in several fully restored trains, cars and railway vehicles from as early as 1905. After exploring the museums, grab a cold craft beer on draft and some delicious food at the Hawthorne Beer Market & Bistro.
In Episode 5 when Niko sends a letter back home to her mom in Japan, you can see a sign for Ken’s Cafe & Restaurant. This real life restaurant has been serving tasty Chinese dishes like Cantonese crispy noodles, Singapore fried rice vermicelli, and pork katsu burgers to the people of Surrey for more than ten years. Surrey’s 176th Street is known for its variety of incredible restaurants and entertainment options. Enjoy some modern pub fare at The Henry Public House, savour some authentic panang curry at Ruby Siam Thai Kitchen, try some fresh seafood on the sunny patio at Vault Restaurant, or grab some authentic Indian food fresh from the tandoor oven at Chatora Indian Restaurant.
Surrey’s Central City Fun Park makes a big appearance in Dead Boy Detectives in Episode 7, when Crystal and Jenny confront David. While it looks spooky and abandoned in the series, Central City Fun Park is usually a bright and buzzing indoor amusement centre featuring arcade games, bowling alleys, mini golf, a roller rink, and private party rooms. Those looking for other indoor activities in the neighbourhood can also head to The Hive Surrey Climbing and Fitness for indoor rock climbing on several exciting courses. Afterwards, take a cooldown walk over to Brownsville Bar Park for stunning views of the famous SkyBridge and Pattullo Bridge, followed by a quick pint at The Brownsville Pub.
